The “Tulou”

In the hilly countryside of the West of Fujian, the limit of the Guanzhou (region of Cato), are large round houses called Tulou (literally Earth House). These ancestors of our buildings, for some standing since 700 years, host families or even whole clans on a well defined model : a temple in the middle of the Court or in front of the entrance, kitchens and sinks to the ground floor and rooms on different floors.

If the best-known buildings have become a tourist attraction to fashion Chinese (right of entry, souvenirs stalls…) others retain a rustic atmosphere that, imagine, has not changed for centuries.
